A New Development Could Be Coming to Lake Norman

What we know so far about the proposed Knox Crossing project in Huntersville
January 2, 2026

New Mixed-Use Development Proposed at Lake Norman Intersection

A new mixed-use development is being proposed for a busy intersection near Lake Norman, according to public records filed with the Town of Huntersville.

The project, called Knox Crossing, is being planned by WLA Enterprises Inc., a developer based in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. The proposed site covers about 44 acres of currently undeveloped land at the northeast corner of Sam Furr Road (N.C. 73) and Old Statesville Road (N.C. 115).

What’s Being Proposed

Plans submitted to the Huntersville Planning Department show that the development would include a mix of housing and commercial uses. The residential portion would consist of:

  • Around 330 apartments

  • Approximately 430 townhomes

  • Buildings ranging from four to five stories

In addition to housing, the plans also show space for a grocery store, a gas station, and several retail shops.

Location and Surroundings

The site sits along a major Lake Norman corridor that sees a high volume of daily traffic and continued growth. Its location near established neighborhoods and main roadways makes it a common area for development interest as Huntersville continues to expand.

What Happens Next

The project will need rezoning approval before it can move forward. Several meetings are scheduled as part of that process:

  • February 3, 2026 (6:00 p.m.) – Huntersville Board of Commissioners will consider setting a public hearing

  • February 24, 2026 (6:30 p.m.) – Huntersville Planning Board will review the proposal and make a recommendation

  • March 17, 2026 (6:00 p.m.) – Huntersville Town Board is scheduled to vote on the rezoning request

All meetings are expected to take place at Huntersville Town Hall, located at 101 Huntersville-Concord Road.

Staying Informed

As with any rezoning request, the Planning Board will provide recommendations, but the final decision will be made by the Town Board. Residents may have opportunities to share feedback during the public process.

More details about the project may become available as it moves through the review and approval stages.
